Report From Kentucky
Fellow BAA Buglers:
The following is a brief report regarding the progress involving live bugling and BAA in the Lexington, Kentucky area. Besides the usual 30-40 monthly funerals at Camp Nelson National cemetery alone, there are 4 scheduled Civil War stone dedications nearby this summer. These are in addition to the one here in Lexington this May for which the family is coming from British Columbia. All of the event coordinators for these dedications are recognizing, displaying our logo and crediting BAA in their verbal and written programs and publicity.

-No prior military service is required, although preferred

-Bugles are going to be ordered for use with the MDNGHG. I plan to have everyone using issued bugles unless they own one.

An Interesting Call to Tom Day at BAA 4-2-08
BAA has benn working for eight years to get the call I will tell you all about.

This morning I talked to the Washington Office that covers all Casuality Assistance. I mean ALL.
All 54 states and territories., 11 Regional offices and 30 Casuality Assistance officers.

The Sgt. Major I spoke with said he has heard the great stories of how BAA and the branches of the services are working so well together that he and his CO would like to see if they can make it a National program with BAA as a partner.

Memorial Day 2008, Great Lakes National Cemetery
Ladies and Gentleman,

"The National Cemetery Administration is combining the Echo Taps program
with the Memorial Day program this year rather than having them
separate. Have you had anyone contact you about the program? If you
would like to participate, the Memorial Day Committee is setting up and
echo taps with two players. We could incorporate any number of
additional players into the program. Please let me know if there is any
interest in doing this."

Taps for buglers? CNHI story 5/18/2006
Taps for buglers?

By James S. Tyree
CNHI News Service

OKLAHOMA CITY — Funerals with military honors are among the most solemn ceremonies anywhere.

Uniforms are pressed to perfection, American flags presented and folded with precision, and rifle shots ring out to punctuate the final salute.

And who has the honor to play the 24 solemn notes of "Taps"?

“Anybody we can get,” says Bill Prater, commander of American Legion Post 88 in Norman, Okla.
